Happy Monday! After a weekend full of parties, great meals, and celebrations, we can end up with a serious case of the Mondays. I’ve found starting the week with an easy to do detox plan helps get our bodies ready for an awesome week ahead. After trying a few different methods, I’ve put together a plan that’s easy and all natural. All your need is water and a few ingredients!
(Ingredients: organic honey, lemon juice, water, cayenne pepper, ginger, fennel seeds)
Morning start: Wake up with a glass of warm water and slice of fresh squeezed lemon. For centuries, warm water with lemon has been an Ayurvedic or natural way to loosen toxins and stimulate the digestive track. Tip: Slice the lemon Sunday night to give you a head start to Monday!
After lunch stay awake: To minimize the food-coma effect, drink a glass of warm water with a ¼ tbs of fennel. Fennel seeds are known to have anti-oxidant and anti-flatulent properties which help with digestion. Tip: Take a deep breath and inhale the aroma – it will give you a little kick. I also keep a mini zip-lock bag of fennel at my desk so it’s always handy.
Evening detox drink: Now that you’re home, you can relax and unwind with this drink. Recipe: 1 glass warm water, 1 slice of lemon, ¼ tbs organic honey, ¼ tbs cayenne pepper. While some people take this drink early in the morning, since cayenne pepper stimulates the circulatory system, I find it better to drink in the evening after a long day. Tip: Add a pinch of cinnamon if you find the taste too bitter.
Before bed: You guessed it – more water! Water is proven to be a natural purifier and keeps our bodies hydrated. You’ll need 1 glass of warm water with ¼ tbs of sliced fresh ginger. Ginger is known for its anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Out of all the drinks, this is the one I drink everyday; it not only helps with digestion, but also helps calm my mind and body before bed. Tip: Less is more – go easy on the ginger.
Note: This plan should compliment your normal routine including eating – not replace it.
